Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts:
    • Tools: Socket set, brake bleeder kit, torque wrench, fluid catch container
    • Parts: Brake fluid, new brake lines or hoses (if needed), brake pads (if worn)
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and securely supported.
2. Brake Fluid Inspection
  • Remove the master cylinder cap and check the fluid level.
    • If low, top up with the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4 for Volvo vehicles).
  • Inspect the fluid for contamination (dark color or debris).
3. Brake Line and Hose Inspection
  • Visually inspect all brake lines and hoses for leaks or signs of wear.
  • If any hoses are cracked or swollen, replace them.
    • To replace, use a line wrench to disconnect the old hose and install the new one, ensuring proper torque.
4. Brake Pad and Rotor Condition
  • Remove the wheel to access the brake assembly.
  • Check the thickness of the brake pads and the condition of the rotors.
    • Replace pads if they are worn below the minimum thickness (usually 3mm).
  • If rotors are warped or below specification, replace them as well.
5. Bleeding the Brakes
  • Connect the brake bleeder kit to the brake caliper.
  • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times and hold it down.
  • Open the bleeder valve to release air and old fluid, then close it before the pedal is released.
  • Repeat until fluid runs clear, ensuring no air bubbles are present.
  • Always start from the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (right rear, left rear, right front, left front).
