Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent accidental electrical shorts.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts with a socket set and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Inspect pads:
    • Check the thickness of the brake pads. If they are less than 3mm, they should be replaced.
  • Remove pads:
    • Unbolt the caliper using a socket wrench.
    • Slide the caliper off the rotor and support it (do not hang it by the brake line).
    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Install new pads:
    • Apply brake grease to the back of the new pads.
    • Slide the new pads into the caliper bracket.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors
  • Check rotors:
    • Measure the thickness of the rotors. If below the manufacturer’s specifications or if they are scored, they need to be replaced.
  • Remove rotors:
    • Unbolt the caliper bracket and remove it.
    • Slide the rotor off the hub. If it's stuck, gently tap it with a hammer.
  • Install new rotors:
    • Place the new rotor onto the hub, ensuring it is seated properly.
    • Reinstall the caliper bracket and torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new pads and torque the caliper bolts.
  • Reattach the wheel and torque the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Lower the vehicle and perform a test drive to ensure the grinding noise is resolved.
