Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, and a flat screwdriver.
  • Safely elevate the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands to prevent movement.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to loosen the lug nuts while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Remove the lug nuts entirely and take off the wheel to access the strut assembly.
3. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • Disconnect any sensors or brake lines attached to the strut.
  • Remove the lower strut bolts using the appropriate socket size.
  • Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring on the strut.
  • Once compressed, remove the top strut mount nuts located under the hood.
  • Carefully detach the strut assembly from the vehicle.
4. Inspect and Replace Struts
  • Inspect the strut for signs of damage or wear.
  • If leaking, replace with new struts specific to the Volvo XC60.
  • Ensure that the new struts are correctly oriented and compatible with the vehicle model.
5. Reassemble Strut Assembly
  • Position the new strut in place, securing the top mount with the nuts.
  • Reattach the lower strut bolts, tightening them to the manufacturer’s recommended torque specifications.
  • Reconnect any sensors or brake lines that were previously disconnected.
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and onto the ground.
  • Use the torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.
