Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials: fuel injector cleaning kit, socket set, wrenches, shop towels, safety glasses, gloves, and a fuel pressure gauge.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is cool.
2. Disconnect Fuel Supply
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse and starting the engine until it stalls.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Locate the fuel rail and carefully disconnect the fuel lines using a wrench, catching any fuel in a container.
3. Remove Fuel Injectors
  • Remove the intake manifold if necessary to gain access to the fuel rail.
  • Unfasten the fuel rail mounting bolts and carefully lift the fuel rail, ensuring not to damage the injectors.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from each fuel injector.
  • Gently pull the injectors out of their seats from the fuel rail.
4. Clean Injectors
  • Using a fuel injector cleaning kit, attach the cleaning solution canister to the fuel rail.
  • Follow the kit instructions to run the cleaning solution through the injectors, ensuring to keep the engine off during this process.
  • Allow the cleaning solution to soak in for the recommended time to dissolve deposits.
  • After soaking, run the cleaning solution through each injector while performing short bursts of engine cranking to clear out any debris.
5. Reassemble Components
  • Reinstall the cleaned fuel injectors into the fuel rail, ensuring they are seated properly.
  • Reattach the fuel rail to the engine and tighten the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (refer to repair manual for torque values).
  • Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors.
6. Final Steps
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Replace the fuel pump fuse and turn the ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine to prime the fuel system.
  • Start the engine and check for leaks around the fuel injectors and rail.
