Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and securely lift it using jack stands.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Locate the Leak
  • Use a flashlight to pinpoint the source of the leak from the power steering pump, hoses, or steering rack.
  • Clean the area around the leak with a lint-free cloth to aid in identifying the source during testing.
3. Replace Damaged Hoses
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrenches, hose clamp pliers.
  • If hoses are damaged, remove the clamps using hose clamp pliers and disconnect the old hoses.
  • Install new power steering hoses, ensuring they fit securely and are clamped properly.
  • Torque the connections to manufacturer's specifications if applicable.
4. Replace Power Steering Pump
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, pulley puller.
  • Disconnect the power steering pump from the mounting bracket.
  • Remove the drive belt from the pump pulley using the appropriate tools.
  • Disconnect fluid lines from the pump and remove the pump from the vehicle.
  • Install the new power steering pump and connect the fluid lines securely.
  • Reinstall the drive belt and ensure it's properly tensioned.
5. Fill and Bleed the System
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate type of power steering fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed air from the system.
  • Check fluid level after bleeding and top off as necessary.
