Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the replacement.
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
    • Adjustable wrench
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Safety glasses and gloves
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Using a jack, lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts from the front wheel.
  • Take off the wheel to access the tie rod end.
4. Disconnect the Tie Rod End
  • Locate the tie rod end connected to the steering knuckle.
  • Use a tie rod end puller or a pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  • If using a pickle fork, be aware it may damage the rubber boot; consider replacing it if necessary.
  • Remove the nut securing the tie rod end with an adjustable wrench.
5. Remove the Old Tie Rod End
  • Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod by turning it counterclockwise.
  • Note the number of turns to ensure proper installation of the new part.
6. Install the New Tie Rod End
  • Screw the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod, matching the number of turns from removal.
  • Secure it with the nut and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 30-40 lb-ft).
7. Reconnect the Tie Rod End
  • Position the tie rod end back into the steering knuckle.
  • Insert the securing nut and tighten to the specified torque.
8. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub.
  • Hand-tighten the lug nuts and then use the torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 100 lb-ft).
9. Lower the Vehicle
  • Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
10. Check Alignment
  • It's recommended to have the vehicle's alignment checked after replacing the tie rod end.
