Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.

Tools Required:

  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Pliers
  • Spring compressor (if necessary)
  • Screwdriver set
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Make sure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Old Shock Absorbers
  • Front Shocks:

    1. Remove the wheel for access to the shock assembly.
    2. Unbolt the upper shock mount from the chassis (usually requires removing interior trim).
    3. Unbolt the lower shock mount from the lower control arm and remove the shock absorber.
  • Rear Shocks:

    1. Remove the rear wheel for access.
    2. Unbolt the top mount of the shock located inside the rear cargo area or under the rear wheel arch.
    3. Unbolt the lower shock mount and remove the shock absorber.
4. Install New Shock Absorbers
  • Front Shocks:

    1. Position the new shock absorber into the lower control arm and tighten the lower bolt to the manufacturer's specified torque (usually around 50-70 ft-lbs).
    2. Reattach the upper mount and tighten it to the specified torque.
  • Rear Shocks:

    1. Position the new shock absorber and secure the lower mount first.
    2. Reattach the top mount and tighten according to specifications.
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Replace the wheels and lower the vehicle back onto the ground.
  • Tighten all lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
6. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery if disconnected.
  • Double-check all bolts and mounts for proper torque.
