what causes my Volvo XC90 First Generation (2002-2014) to have a check engine light with code P0301

1. Preparation

• Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is cool.
• Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

2. Inspect and Replace Spark Plug

• Remove the ignition coil from cylinder 1.
  • Tools required: Socket set, ratchet.
• Remove the spark plug using a spark plug socket.
  • Inspect the spark plug for wear and carbon buildup.
  • If damaged, replace it with a new spark plug (use OEM specifications).
• Reinstall the spark plug and ignition coil.

3. Check and Replace Ignition Coil (if necessary)

• If the ignition coil for cylinder 1 shows signs of damage (cracks or corrosion), remove it.
  • Tools required: Socket set, ratchet.
• Replace it with a new ignition coil.
• Reconnect the ignition coil connector.
