Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, torque wrench, oil catch pan, ratchet and extensions, multimeter, camshaft alignment tool (if necessary).
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Inspect and Replace the VVT Solenoid
  1. Locate the VVT Solenoid: It is typically found on the engine near the camshaft.
  2. Remove the Electrical Connector: Carefully disconnect the electrical harness from the VVT solenoid.
  3. Unbolt the Solenoid: Use the socket set to remove the bolts securing the solenoid to the engine.
  4. Remove the Solenoid: Gently pull the solenoid out of its mounting position; inspect the O-ring for damage.
  5. Install the New Solenoid:
    • Apply a small amount of engine oil to the O-ring of the new solenoid.
    • Insert the new solenoid into the mounting position.
    • Secure it with the bolts and torque to manufacturer specifications (typically around 8-10 Nm).
  6. Reconnect the Electrical Connector: Ensure a firm connection with the VVT solenoid.
3. Change Engine Oil and Filter
  1. Drain Old Oil: Use an oil catch pan to drain the engine oil completely.
  2. Replace Oil Filter: Remove the old oil filter using an oil filter wrench, making sure the rubber O-ring comes off with it.
  3. Install New Oil Filter: Lubricate the O-ring on the new oil filter with fresh oil and install it by hand, tightening until snug.
  4. Refill Engine Oil: Pour in the manufacturer-recommended oil type and grade, typically 5W-30 or 0W-20, depending on the engine.
  5. Check Oil Level: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, then check the oil level and add if necessary.
