Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap.
  • Inspect the fluid condition; it should be clear or light amber. If it appears dark or contaminated, proceed to change it.
  • If low, add the correct type of power steering fluid as specified in the owner’s manual.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • 1. Remove the Serpentine Belt:

    • Use a socket wrench to relieve tension on the tensioner pulley and slide the belt off the power steering pump.
  • 2. Disconnect Power Steering Lines:

    • Place a drain pan under the pump to catch fluid.
    • Use appropriate wrenches to disconnect the high-pressure and return lines from the pump.
  • 3. Remove the Power Steering Pump:

    • Unbolt the pump from its mounting bracket using a socket set.
    • Carefully remove the pump from the engine bay.
  • 4. Install New Power Steering Pump:

    • Position the new pump in place and secure it with bolts to the mounting bracket.
    • Reconnect the high-pressure and return lines, ensuring they are tight and leak-free.
4. Reinstall Serpentine Belt
  • Route the serpentine belt around the pulleys according to the belt routing diagram.
  • Use the tensioner to apply tension to the belt and make sure it is properly seated on all pulleys.
5. Refill and Bleed Power Steering System
  • Refill the power steering fluid reservoir to the proper level.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed air from the system.
  • Check the fluid level again and add more if necessary.
