Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, ratchet, flathead screwdriver, pry bar, timing belt tool kit, OBD-II scanner.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Ensure the engine is cool and the vehicle is on a level surface.
2. Remove Engine Covers
  • Use a socket set to remove the engine cover bolts and lift off the cover.
  • Remove any additional covers obstructing access to the timing belt.
3. Remove Serpentine Belt
  • Use a serpentine belt tool to relieve tension on the tensioner.
  • Slide the serpentine belt off the pulleys and remove it from the engine bay.
4. Align Timing Marks
  • Rotate the engine using a socket on the crankshaft pulley until the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft align as per the service manual specifications.
5. Remove Timing Belt
  • Loosen the tensioner bolt with a socket and remove the tensioner.
  • Slide the old timing belt off the pulleys, taking note of the routing.
6. Install New Timing Belt
  • Place the new timing belt onto the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys, ensuring it is properly aligned with timing marks.
  • Reinstall the tensioner, applying the specified torque as per the manual.
7. Reinstall Components
  • Reattach the serpentine belt, ensuring it is properly aligned with all pulleys.
  • Reinstall any engine covers that were removed.
8. Finalize and Test
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and listen for any unusual noises.
  • Check for proper operation and alignment of the timing belt.
