Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and ensure the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during repairs.
2. Replace Front Crankshaft Seal
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, screwdrivers, seal puller, engine oil
  • Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner.
  • Remove the harmonic balancer using a puller tool.
  • Extract the old crankshaft seal using a seal puller.
  • Clean the sealing surface on the engine and lubricate the new seal with engine oil.
  • Install the new seal carefully, ensuring it is flush with the engine block.
  • Reinstall the harmonic balancer and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Reinstall the serpentine belt.
3. Replace Valve Cover Gasket
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, gasket scraper, RTV sealant
  • Remove any components obstructing access to the valve cover (e.g., air intake).
  • Unbolt the valve cover and lift it off carefully.
  • Clean the mating surface on both the valve cover and cylinder head thoroughly.
  • Apply a thin layer of RTV sealant if required by the gasket type.
  • Install the new gasket and reassemble the valve cover, torquing bolts to manufacturer specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Oil Filter
  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench, oil catch pan
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil filter, and use the oil filter wrench to remove the old filter.
  • Lubricate the rubber O-ring on the new filter with engine oil.
  • Install the new oil filter, hand-tightening it to ensure a proper seal.
